Why You Need a Jumpsuit in Your Wardrobe

Because you have a weakness for comfortable, stylish outfits is why you need a jumpsuit. Period. My work here is done! Just kidding. As mentioned in the Fashion Tips to Make You Look Taller post, the jumpsuit is the perfect onesie for an adult. No-fuss, no muss. Just put it on, add shoes and accessories, and go. The jumpsuitโ€™s straight line will make you appear taller and slimmer because of the uniform color and columnar shape it brings to your body. That on its own deserves two snaps!

Honestly, other than having to take it off to go to the bathroom, there is literally no downside to wearing a jumpsuit. But let us be real, trying to hold up a full skirt or dress in a bathroom stall is no easy feat either. However, we persevere because we are women.

Everyday Jumpsuit

A jumpsuit is the most forgiving outfit on any body type. If it fits correctly, it will literally look good on anyone. Whether attending a girlfriends lunch or spending time in the boardroom, you are going to look savvy coming and going.

Under Layering

If your jumpsuit is more suited for warmer weather, layer a top underneath – or add one to customize your look. The cut will determine if you want to wear a top that is more fitted or full. Because the chest and torso area are covered by the jumpsuit, you can choose a top that would generally be more revealing to layer underneath for a bit of spunk.

Denim Jumpsuit

We all love our favorite pair of jeans. You have worn them so much, they have almost melded to your body for the utmost in comfort. A denim jumpsuit is no different. Many come in an array of denim colors and offer four-way stretch for freedom and ease of movement. I have a few that are so comfortable I wear them all day while working from home.

Casual Shoes for Casual Jumpsuits

Pair it with a more casual shoe (like a designer sneaker) to give it a little funkiness or add a slight heel (open-toe bootie) to extend your silhouette. One thing to keep in mind, if your jumpsuit has a longer and/or wider leg, ensure your shoes have a closed heel. This prevents the bottom of your pants from slipping under the backside of your foot.

Flirty & Fun Jumpsuits

Every now and then, we fancy an outfit with a little zest and allure. This style of jumpsuit also begs for color, so do not hold back. Select one that is a bit more snug and curvy, especially on the backside. You might have to adjust your usual size to get the perfect fit for this style — no baggy butts here.

Belted Options

If you want to take it up a notch, pair your jumpsuit with a complementing belt. Replace the standard sash or belt that accompanied your jumpsuit with a distinct belt that is going to give your outfit a little attitude and showcase your personality. A contrasting belt is an easy way to tone down or dress up your jumpsuit and attract more definition at your waistline.

Formal Jumpsuit

Jumpsuits have been the trend for the past several years, from galas to red carpet events with no signs of this garment taking a back seat. If anything, it is heating up the evening category with more selections than ever before. If you feel more intimidated choosing a jumpsuit than a typical dress, then select a traditional formal color like a black, plum, or garnet for your event.

Dressier Shoes for Your Dressier Jumpsuits

Any jumpsuit that is fun, flirty, sexy or elegant must be worn with a heel. There are no exceptions. Otherwise, your intended fabulous outfit will immediately appear frumpy and make you look shorter or broader (or god forbid – both!). Follow the casual shoe tip above if your hem stops right at or below your ankle.

Jump All Over Your New Jumpsuit

The jumpsuit is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its 1919 invention for skydivers and aviators. Although it has undergone many adaptations, one thing is for sure, this sassy all-in-one outfit is sure to be a favorite in your closet. But why stop at just one?

I am always on the lookout for new jumpsuit brands. If you are a jumpsuit fan, share your favorite in the comments below.
