This past year we downsized from a larger house into a manageable condo. Even though I do not regret the move, I do regret letting go of some hats. As my mom would say, “it’s a shopping opportunity!” Since I am forever the obedient daughter, I cannot argue, and I must comply. On a recent trip to Spain, I bought my first custom hat from a millinery in Barcelona. It was a fun and unique experience. I was glad to have my husband and traveling friends along to help me select my perfect hat. I love it. It is my pride and joy and brings back fond memories of our trip together. It was the springboard I needed to get back into the hat groove. Now I am on the hunt for more exceptional spring 2020 hats. It would be best if you were too.

10 Reasons Why You Should Wear a Hat:

  1. It swiftly pulls your outfit together;
  2. In need of a confidence boost — wear a hat, hold your head high and push your shoulders back;
  3. Shields your face and neck from the sun;
  4. Wear less sunscreen on your face and neck;
  5. Keeps you cool, or keeps you warm
  6. Enables you to experiment with smaller amounts of color, print or embellishments;
  7. Hides a bad hair day or a much-needed color touch-up;
  8. Your face looks more oval and your body smaller;
  9. One of the few fashion items (similar to a scarf) that stays current season after season and year after year (so invest in a good one);
  10. Give your outfit an immediate cool-vibe boost!

What I love about spring wardrobes is the ability to teeter between those last colder days of winter and the approaching hot days of summer. In the spring, I might be wearing a wool hat one day and a straw hat the next. I love the flexibility of the spring season, and the same goes for my wearable spring hats in 2020.

Wool Fedora Hats in Spring Colors

If you have never worn a brimmed hat before, it might feel weird at first. As with anything new, it takes a bit of getting used to it. You have to actually wear hats to get used to them. It takes a few wears as it is a foreign fashion piece. And believe me, your tastes will change as you acclimate to the style and start to try others that fit your personality. If you are new to fedoras, it will be easier to adapt with a lighter hue versus something more bright and bold.

Spring Straw Hats

A straw hat signals warmer sunshine, daffodils, cut grass, and birds chirping as the first signs of spring start to percolate. A straw hat is less drama than the statement maker of the fedora, yet no less significant to an outfit. I straw hat says I am concerned with the effects of the sun, yet I still want to look fashionable.

Casual and Yet Chic Baseball Caps

If your outfit calls for torn jeans or a floral sundress with designer sneakers, then a baseball cap might be right up your alley. But just any baseball cap will not suffice. It would help if you had something with a little more pizazz. Just remember, a baseball cap is not going to shield your face and neck as well as a wide-brimmed hat, but in a pinch, it is better than no hat at all.

Fringe and Feathers Spring Hats for 2020

As seen in the post, 2020 Spring Fashion Trends, fringe, and feathers are all aflutter. One of the easiest ways to add this trend without going all out flocked is to add a sprinkle into your accessories. What better way than with a hat? The best part about these hat options is they will stay in your wardrobe for years to come. They display an elegant restraint of the trend versus its ostentatious cousin, the derby. Do not get me wrong, I am all about a big-ass derby hat alongside a silver-cupped mint julep.

UPF 50+ and Foldable/Packable Hats

Sometimes you need an item to be a multitasking superhero. Similar to how a woman conducts her life all day long. Drop the mic. Luckily these 2020 spring hats pull their weight in the multitasking department. They not only look stylish, but they are also efficient and functional.

Just because you are wearing a wide-brimmed hat does not mean that you are shielding yourself from UV damage. Check to make sure it has an SPF or the new UPF rating. UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and is the rating given to clothing for its broad-spectrum protection against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.

Many hats fold down for easy packability. You can haphazardly shove into your tote for a trek across town or to take with you on a fascinating vacation to your next sunny destination. Some of these hats are packable and are UFP rated. Now that is a hat that deserves superhero status.

Rundown of 2020 Spring Hats

As coarse salt is to the rim of a margarita glass, so is a hat to your outfit. A hat completes and elevates any look and gives you that bit of pizazz and personality. I know from time to time, I struggle with pulling an outfit together, and honestly, a hat does the trick every time.

Please do not tell me that you are not a hat person. Almost everyone can wear a hat (even your Aunt Beulah). You need to find the right size and shape for your face and your personal style. Once you find that “fit,” buy it in every color and fabric available. As the right hat is just as capable of pulling your outfits together as a celebrity fashion stylist. There you go — I just saved you thousands of dollars. May I also suggest that Aunt Beulah go in a new hat direction. Something tells me she needs some new exotic and worldly items in her life. I can not wait to see her selfies on social.
