2020 Spring Fashion Trends

As we greet this new decade, which I am calling the “twinkle-twenties,” I am trying to approach it with optimism, positiveness, happiness, exuberance, and shimmer. I see a lot of sequins, glitter, highlighters, and bronzers in my future. I am starting a twinkling twenties mindset, so join me on the train because we are going on a fun-loving and entertaining ride.

Luckily the 2020 spring fashion trends are jumping on the twinkle train. Gone are the dark, grungy, shapeless fashions of the past few seasons. Emerging are lighter, brighter, happier, and flattering pieces, as seen in last month’s New York, London, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks. Here are my standout favorites for everyday approachable 2020 spring fashion trends that your cheerful self cannot live without.

Femme Fringe

Fringe is an approachable and straightforward trend that you can add splashes into your wardrobe without going full-on country. This trend spans across many styles from street to high fashion, so you will notice it throughout differing designers. The entry point to the fringe trend is not surprisingly through accessories and handbags. Yet, whether it is strips of fringe running across lapels, or wispies trimming the entire hem of a skirt, fringe deserves a walk of intention and movement. The high fashion take? Go longer than you think you can with this 2020 spring fashion trend.

Color Corner

“Combining our desire for stability, creativity, and more spontaneous design approaches, the color palette for Spring/Summer 2020 infuses heritage and tradition with a colorful, youthful update that creates strong multi-colored combinations as well as energizing and optimistic pairings,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. With colors such as Flame Scarlet, Saffron Yellow, Classic Blue, and Biscay Green, I couldn’t agree more Leatrice!

Purely Puckered

Smocked outfits are not just for kids or maternity. A throwback to the 60s and 70s, smocking is an embroidery technique used to gather fabric so that it can stretch. Smocked outfits are making an appearance from the beach to the ballroom. It is a technique that you need to be aware of when choosing outfits, as it will either attract or detract your best and worst features. That being said, I love this comfortable and forgiving fabric because it mimics the feel of elastic. Anything that expands and contracts with me throughout the day (especially after potato chips), I am a fan.

Kaftan Confidence

Kaftans are about the perfect piece when you need to slip something on and look fabulous and chic in about the time it takes you to say, “honey, I am taking the yacht out for brunch with the girls.” Seriously, you can dress a kaftan up and be the belle of the ball. Or dress it down with designer sneakers or throw it over a swimsuit. The kaftan is your wardrobe chameleon. If you feel your kaftan does not have enough definition around the waist (sometimes they are just OS), belt it with a complimentary option. Do not let this extraordinary piece slip through your fingers when you are scanning the clothes racks this 2020 spring season.

Sublime Suits

This 2020 spring season, it’s all about the reinvented suit—look for subtly new variations made of soft silk and satin. Your power suit gets a fresh update with unique patterns, cuts, and tailoring. Think bold monochromatic silhouettes finished with unexpected touches. Do not be shy, you can even swap out your pants for Bermuda shorts.

Teasing Tiers

It is a fun, flirty alternative to the usual straight dress or skirt. Tiers add interest and dimension to the garment’s design, making an ideal piece if you are looking for a little perkiness in your day. Whenever I see a tiered fashion piece, it immediately puts me in my happy place as they ooze playfulness. This 2020 spring fashion trend is the perfect item to add symmetry if you are an inverted triangle body shape.

Flocks of a Feather

Sometimes we want a little glamour and mystique, whether it appears in the form of an eye-catching earring, sultry stiletto, or a breathtaking handbag. Enter the feather for your spring glamorization. While almost certainly light as air, these pieces pack a hefty sartorial punch.

Crochet All Day

Think ultra-feminine touches that feel modern with a modern sprinkle of Grandma’s crochet. My great-grandmother, grandmother, and mom all crocheted. Holidays and birthdays were a treat as I knew I would receive an heirloom item from at least one of them. My favorites were the crocheted hats. After making an appearance this past winter, crochet styles for spring are settling in with light and beachy styles.

Square Pair

The square-toed shoe made a prominent appearance last year, and it shows no signs of slowing down. With more options than ever before, the square-toed shoe should be a critical staple on your shoe racks. I personally love the fact that I do not scuff these like I always seemed to do with pointy shoes.

2020 Spring Fashion Trend Roundup

With these 2020 Spring fashion trends, it is exciting to see a bit of daring and cheerfulness in fashion. Designers seem optimistic and are not taking themselves too seriously, neither should we.
